On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina, the most annihilating tempest in the historical backdrop of the United States, came shorewards. Winds of more than 160 MPH and a tidal surge of about 30 feet totally decimated all of Buccaneer State Park's structures, waterpark and bolster offices. The recreation center has been under fluctuating phases of remaking in the course of the most recent eight years. The last period of recreation was finished in November of 2013.
Today, Buccaneer has been perfectly reestablished. Situated on the shoreline in Waveland, Buccaneer is in a characteristic setting of substantial greenery hung oaks, marshlands and the Gulf of Mexico. Utilization of this land was first recorded in history in the late 1700's when Jean Lafitte and his devotees were dynamic in sneaking and pilfering along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The French Buccaneer, Lafitte, possessed the old Pirate House found a short separation from what is presently the recreation center.
