Brayton Grist Mill is a notable grist process along Mashamoquet Brook, at the passage to Mashamoquet Brook State Park off United States Route 44 in Pomfret, Connecticut. Worked around 1890, it is outstanding amongst other saved nineteenth century country grist processes in the state. It was recorded on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The factory has been reestablished, and is kept up by the Pomfret Historical Society as the Marcy Blacksmith Museum; it is open by arrangement.
Mashamoquet Brook was the site of ious early factories, dating in any event as far back as 1816. This factory was worked by William Brayton c. 1890 from materials rescued from more seasoned factories that were on the site. It is the last surviving factory of a few that are known to have lined Mashamoquet Brook in the region. Brayton passed on in 1928, and the state acquired the property in 1930 as a major aspect of an amplification of the state stop.
