Bourbon Street
About Bourbon Street
Bourbon Street is a road in the core of New Orleans' most established neighborhood, the French Quarter, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The French asserted Louisiana as a state in the 1690s. Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville was designated as Director General accountable for building up a settlement in the region. He established New Orleans in 1718. In 1721, the illustrious architect, Adrien de Pauger, planned the city's road design.
He named the lanes after French regal houses and Catholic holy people. Whiskey Street paid tribute to France's decision family, the House of Bourbon. New Orleans was given to the Spanish in 1763 after the Seven Years' War. The Great New Orleans Fire of 1788 decimated 80% of the city's building.
