Blount Mansion
About Blount Mansion
The Blount Mansion, otherwise called William Blount Mansion, situated at 200 West Hill Avenue in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, was the home of the main regional legislative leader of the Southwest Territory, William Blount 1749– 1800. Blount, additionally an underwriter of the United States Constitution and a U.S. Congressperson from Tennessee, lived on the property with his family and ten African-American slaves. The chateau filled in as the true legislative hall of the Southwest Territory.
In 1796, a great part of the Tennessee Constitution was drafted, in Governor Blount's office at the manor. Tennessee state history specialist John Trotwood Moore once called Blount Mansion "the most imperative authentic spot in Tennessee." The house is a wood-outline home sheathed in wood siding, worked with materials brought from North Carolina in a period when most homes in Tennessee were log lodges. The two-story focal segment of the house is the most established area.
The one-story west wing is accepted to have been developed straightaway; archeologists speculate the west wing was initially a storehouse, which was then moved and joined to the primary house, and there is some proof the west wing was initially the hirelings' quarters. The one-story east wing was the last segment to be developed, maybe as late as 1820. Blount's office, from which he administered and led his business issues, was worked alongside the house and is a one-story, unattached building and had an unassuming entryway patio.
