Battery Point Light
About Battery Point Light
Battery Point Light is a beacon in Crescent City, California, United States. It is enlisted as a California Historical Landmark, and is recorded on the National Register of Historic Places as "Bow City Lighthouse"Battery Point Light was one of the main beacons on the California drift. Rough mountains and unbridged waterways implied waterfront travel was fundamental for the monetary survival of this district. In 1855, Congress appropriated $15,000 for the development of a beacon on the little islet, which is associated with Battery Point by an isthmus which is unmistakable, and can be navigated by walking, at low tide. In spite of the fact that excluded in the 1852 shrink by the United States Lighthouse Service for the initial eight west drift beacons, the Battery Point Lighthouse was really lit ten days before the Humboldt Harbor Lighthouse, the remainder of the first eight to wind up operational. The fourth-arrange Fresnel focal point was lit in 1856. The beacon was mechanized in 1953, and a cutting edge 14.8-inch 375 mm focal point supplanted the fourth-arrange Fresnel focal point. Theophilis Magruder was the station's first manager; Wayne Piland was its last before mechanization in 1953. The 1964 Alaska seismic tremor, the most grounded quake at any point recorded in the northern side of the equator, caused a wave. The beacon survived. In the next year, the advanced reference point that supplanted the Fresnel focal point in the pinnacle was turned off, and a blazing light toward the finish of the adjacent jetty filled in as the harbor's navigational guide. In 1982, the light in the beacon tower was lit once more, and the Battery Point Lighthouse was recorded as a private guide to route.
