Barrio Viejo
About Barrio Viejo
Barrio Viejo signifies "old neighborhood" in Spanish. This territory is a critical piece of our group's rich history and it reflects a large number of the encounters of life here in Arizona. Otherwise called "Barrio Libre Free", this area was home to a socially assorted group of individuals from America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Toward the north, Tucson's initial business area was arranged between Alameda, Broadway, Church and Main. From that area to where the Tucson Convention Center stands today, were a few pieces of adobe structures that numerous individuals called their home or business which were bulldozed for what a few people called urban reestablishment and others called a disastrous case of government and social preference. What one discovers today in Barrio Viejo is for all intents and purposes all that is left of Tucson's 19thcentury business and private structures. As far as anyone is concerned there is no bigger gathering of nineteenth century adobe structures in the United States.
