Weight Point Park was once in the past named Jules Verne Park and had its beginnings in the 1800s. Stabilizer Point Park is a recreation center in the Ballast Point neighborhood in Tampa, Florida, situated at 5300 Interbay Blvd., Tampa, Florida, 33611.
The recorded marker put at the recreation center by the Hillsborough County Historical Commission peruses: "Earlier Jules Verne Park-Mrs. Chester W. Chapin controlling proprietor of the organization which worked the city's first electric trolley autos, acquired these sections of land and in 1894 formed this site into a tropical stop as a terminal for her line.
She named it for the French essayist Jules Verne 1814-1905 who in his renowned novel "From the Earth to the Moon" first distributed in 1865 picked Tampa town as his starting site for the nonexistent shot of his rocket to that planet close to one hundred years prior."
