Alligator Gorge
About Alligator Gorge
The Alligator Gorge is located in the northern part of Mount Remarkable National Park. This spectacular gorge cut through ancient quartzite by the Alligator Creek is easily accessible to visitors along a 10 minute walking trail. The red-brown cliffs tower and the steps leading down into the rugged gorge mark are the two trails here. It offers some mind blowing views in the Flinders Ranges. The gorge floor has certain rock patterned ripple lines which are believed to be created some 500- 600 million years ago when the Flinders Range formed a part of an ancient seabed. Throughout the gorge, you might spot kangaroos and emus along with some rare wild flowers. You don't have to worry about accommodation, as lodges are available near the northern entrance to the park.
