About Alabama State Capitol
The present Greek Revival Capitol on "Goat Hill" dates from 1850-51 and supplanted a before structure that consumed. Twice, worldwide consideration has concentrated on Alabama's State Capitol. In 1861, the Confederate States of America was conceived in the Senate Chamber, where delegates from Southern states voted to set up another country. Barely a century later, the 1965 Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March drove by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., finished in the city before the Capitol.
In 1960 the United States Secretary of the Interior assigned the Capitol as a National Historic Landmark. Starting in the 1970s, the Alabama Historical Commission directed a noteworthy reclamation and remodel exertion. The vast majority of this work was done in 1992, yet endeavors to reestablish and improve the verifiable character of the building are continuous. The Alabama State Capitol is a memorable property of the Alabama Historical Commission.
