Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a city in Washington, United States. The city is the financial focus of Grays Harbor County, flanking the urban areas of Hoquiam and Cosmopolis. Aberdeen is known as the "Door to the Olympic Peninsula". Aberdeen was named after a neighborhood salmon cannery to mirror its Scottish angling port namesake Aberdeen, and in light of the fact that it, as well, is arranged at the mouth of two waterways, similar to Aberdeen, Scotland, which is between the streams 'Wear' at the north and the waterway 'Dee' toward the south.

Aberdeen is at the eastern end of Grays Harbor, close to the mouth of the Chehalis River and southwest of the Olympic Mountains. Grays Harbor is striking as the northernmost ria on North America's Pacific Coast since it has stayed free of icy masses all through the Quaternary because of negative geology and warm temperatures.
