Winston Churchill Memorial Gardens
About Winston Churchill Memorial Gardens
Winston Churchill Memorial Gardens, once a burial ground, is a little urban park situated between the Lower High Street toward the north and Market Street toward the south. It lies in the core of Cheltenham's Lower High Street recovery zone. The patio nurseries are a little more than 1 hectare in size and they include a Yew lined way going through the focal point of the greenhouses towards the first house of prayer, now St Marys' Mission and a Grade II recorded building.
There is a cycle way on the western limit, open space-incompletely sown with wildflowers, a plenty of decorative trees, a play territory and a formal lavender garden and patio with mosaic water fountain. The water fountain is encompassed by words, expressions and straightforward line illustrations assembled from neighbourhood youngsters and grown-ups to symbolize how they feel about the patio nurseries. The pictures are squeezed into blue designing blocks, once utilized on the railroad line that runs parallel to the greenery enclosures.
The task was together supported by the Green Environment Division, Lower High Street Partnership and the Regional Arts Council. There is access to the Honeybourne Line cycle track, a previous railroad line which keeps running along a dike toward the west of the patio nurseries shaping the limit to this side. This assigned track, highway 41 of the Sustrans national cycle arrange, gives a profitable connection into the greenery enclosures and over the town.
