Virginia Water Lake
About Virginia Water Lake
Virginia Water Lake lies on the southern edge of Windsor Great Park, in the precinct of Runnymede in Surrey and the common areas of Old Windsor and Sunningdale in Berkshire, in England. It is a man-made lake taking its name from a characteristic waterway of a similar name. There is a town of Virginia Water which extends toward the east of the lake. The grounds of the lake, adjacent Fort Belvedere, and the Clockcase are all Grade I recorded on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
Virginia Water Lake was initially minimal in excess of a stream, which existed from in any event the 17th century and may well be named after Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, despite the fact that this isn't sure. The River Bourne gives the water to the lake and it leaves the lake at the eastern end after the falling cascade. The first lake was considerably littler than the current shape, and was devastated in a surge in 1768. In 1780 Paul and Thomas Sandby started development of a substantially bigger lake at the site, and proceeded to include a counterfeit cascade, Meadow Pond and Obelisk Pond.
