About Town Moor

The Town Moor is a vast zone of basic land in Newcastle upon Tyne. It covers a region of around 1000 sections of land or 400ha, and is bigger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath joined, and furthermore bigger than New York City's Central Park (843 sections of land). Like them it isn't on the edge of the city, however has rural areas surrounding it. It extends from the downtown area and Spital Tongues in the south out to Cowgate/Kenton Bar toward the west and from Gosforth toward the north and Jesmond toward the east.

At the south-eastern corner lies the Exhibition Park, however whatever remains of the Town Moor isn't spread out as a recreation center and is generally treeless. Freemen of the city have the privilege to nibble dairy cattle on the fields; the rental wage is conveyed through the Town Moor Money Charity. The ornithologist and scene designer John Hancock, after whom the adjacent Hancock Museum is named, delivered an arranged format for the Town Moor in 1868, which was just incompletely figured it out.

The zone of normal land is really part up into a few segments, of which the Town Moor is nevertheless the significant part. The zone is converged by the A189 Street and the area on the opposite side of the street is known as Nuns Moor, and incorporates the Newcastle United Golf Club.
