About Stanwick Lakes
Stanwick Lakes is a rustic park at the outskirts of the village of Stanwick and was opened in 2006. It is managed by the Rockingham Forest Trust on behalf of East Northamptonshire District Council and accommodates 750 acres of former gravel pits. It is a part of the bigger River Nene Regional Park. Prior to the development of a pass and mass excavation of gravel, a Roman villa became excavated in 1984–1992 and several mosaics were located.
In 2013, one of the mosaics was again after look at and is now on display within the Visitor Centre at Stanwick Lakes. A medieval village became excavated in 1985-1989 near to the village of Ringstead. The earthworks and buried archaeological stays of the medieval village of West Cotton, consisting of a mid-past due Anglo-Saxon and medieval settlement deserted before 1450. The agreement overlies the north end of an intensive prehistoric ceremonial complex.
