St Swithuns Church
About St Swithuns Church
St. Swithun's is a Church of England church in East Grinstead, West Sussex, England, or, in other words II recorded building. The site had a congregation since the eleventh century. It was struck by lightning in 1772 and after it was modified by James Wyatt it was opened in 1789. It is arranged on a slope top site close access to town, where in the previous a few tracks met. The territory started to be settled in the late tenth century: and St Swithun Bishop of Winchester, 852-862 was the decision for chapel benefactor. Right up 'til the present time it remains a noticeable milestone.
Close to the passageway to the congregation, three stones stamp the alleged cinders of Anne Tree, Thomas Dunngate and John Forman who were scorched as saints on 18 July 1556 on the grounds that they would not repudiate the Protestant faith. A national interest for assets brought 516 up in 1788. A program of rebuilding in 1874 initiated the present appearance. A Trust Fund was set up in 1979 to give financing to reclamation. It is autonomous of the Parochial Church Council.
