St Michaels Church
About St Michaels Church
St Michael's Church is a remarkable Anglican area church in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. It is situated in the lower some portion of the town, close to its inside, towards the northern end of Church Street. In spite of being rejected by Thomas Hardy in his 1895 novel Jude the Obscure as emaciated and ugly, St Michael's is a Grade I recorded building. It is to a great extent of sixteenth century development in stone and rock.
Similarly as with numerous British holy places, there is proof of much change made to the working throughout the hundreds of years. The South Porch of the congregation was worked in 1539, and a War Memorial Chapel introduced in 1920. Today, the building appears as a twofold aisled church with a west pinnacle and two separate sanctuaries either side of the chancel at the eastern end. There is a connected churchyard, which was shut to internments around 1860. You can come with your loved ones.
