About St Margarets Church
Uxbridge Parish Church, St Margaret's, is well situated on a little street referred to as Windsor Street, off the High Street close to the station, preserved because the neighborhood conservation vicinity. Built in flint with stone-edged windows and dressings on the buttresses, it consists of a huge blocky nave with a tall pitched roof, with the primary front on a type of aisle on one facet and the tower, no longer very improved at all, on the opposite side of that, consequently absolutely indifferent from the nave. It is quite of a mixture of styles, with Gothic and low-arched windows, reflecting the diverse dates of its erection.
The tower dates from past due in the 14th Century, with a few rebuilding in approximately 1820; the relaxation is from the 15th and 16th centuries, with restorations in Victorian instances. It become formerly a chapel of Hillingdon Church, and became a Parish Church in its very own proper as past due as 1842. The effect of this is that most of the grander folks of the location were buried and had their monuments at Hillingdon in preference to in Uxbridge, and also that the 2 nearby companies of monumental masons, Burgiss of Uxbridge and Tomlinson of Uxbridge, primarily served Hillingdon and other local churches than Uxbridge – Tomlinson has just one monument here, and Burgiss signs none.
