St Lythans burial chamber
About St Lythans burial chamber
Despite the fact that the stone chamber is obvious as you approach it from the street, the remaining parts of the cairn – or hill – are scarcely noticeable. It appears to have been around 24 meters 80 feet long and 11 meters 35 feet wide with the load involving the eastern end. The chamber now comprises of three upright stones with a capstone weighing up to 35 tons. To what extent it was utilized and who was covered here are questions that stay unanswered however finds of human remains and earthenware recouped from the site some time before 1875 were recorded by the collector, J. W. Lukis.
