St Georges Minster
About St Georges Minster
The Minster and Parish Church of St George, Doncaster, otherwise called Doncaster Minster, is an area church in the Church of England. It is one of the Greater Churches. The unique 20th century Norman building torched on the most recent day of February 1853. This fire brought about the loss of the medieval library which was over the south porch. The current building was planned by planner Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1853 and developed somewhere in the range of 1854 and 1858 at an expense of £43,126. It was sanctified by the Archbishop of York on 14 October 1858.
It is one of Doncaster's most structurally vital structures prove by its Grade I posting and was depicted by Sir John Betjeman as "Victorian Gothic” getting it done. It was given minster status by the Bishop of Sheffield on 17 June 2004. Amongst its fortunes are a clock by Dent and a terrific 5 manual organ by the famous German organ developer Edmund Schulze.
