About St Andrews Church
St Andrew's Church is inside the centre of the metropolis of Penrith, Cumbria, England. It is an active anglican parish church in the deanery of Penrith, the archdeaconry of Carlisle, and the diocese of Carlisle. Its benefice is united with those of Christ Church, Penrith; St John, Newton Reigny and St John the Evangelist, Plumpton Wall. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a chosen Grade I listed building.
At one time, St Andrew's had a chapel of ease or mission church in Brougham Street in the Penrith suburb of Castletown referred to as St Saviours and some other, All Hallows at the hamlet of Bowscar simply to the north of the metropolis. The tower dates from the 12th and 13th centuries, the top degree being both added or rebuilt in the fifteenth century. The rest of the church, collectively with the west doorway, became rebuilt in 1721–seventy two, while the diagonal buttresses have been introduced to the tower. The 18th-century rebuilding end up almost absolutely designed with the aid of William Etty of York.
