About St Alkmunds Church

St Alkmund's Church stands in a raised position in the focal point of the town of Whitchurch, Shropshire, England. The congregation is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as an assigned Grade I recorded building. It is a functioning Anglican ward church in the see of Lichfield, the archdeaconry of Salop and the deanery of Wem and Whitchurch. The church is built in red sandstone ashlar with a few points of interest in dark sandstone ashlar and it has a slate rooftop.
It is in neoclassical style. The arrangement comprises of a six-straight nave with north and south paths, a three-narrows apsidal chancel, a south patio and an essential west pinnacle. The organ possesses the east end of the north path and at the east end of the south walkway is a Lady Chapel. The windows are tall and round-angled with little glass sheets in cast-press outlines. The first glass was clear and in a portion of the windows this has been supplanted with 19th century recolored glass. The south yard is surmounted by a balustrade and drawn nearer by two stone advances.
