About Spennymoor
Spennymoor is a town in County Durham, England. It remains over the Wear Valley around 7 mi 11 km south of Durham. The town was established more than 160 years prior. The Town Council region, which incorporates the towns of Kirk Merrington, Middlestone Moor, Byers Green and Tudhoe, has a populace of roughly 20,000. The arrive on which Spennymoor presently stands was at one time an immense span of moorland secured with thistle and whin shrubs Spenny Moor.
The beginning of the name remains to some degree unverifiable – some trust it to be gotten from the Latin "Spina" which implies a thistle conceivably from the Roman impact at Binchester and Mor which was the Anglo-Saxon word for a field. C.E. Jackson, in his "Place Names of Durham, 1916", recommends a Scandinavian "Spaan" which means shingle-hovel and Anglo-Saxon mix including "deface" – Spennymoor being the field called after the shingle-cottage raised consequently.
Neither Britons nor Romans developed the field, however on the site of Binchester, a town five miles toward the south-west, the Romans assembled a camp around which grew up the settlement of Vinovium. The name Binchester is the standard Saxon defilement or adjustment of the Roman site name.
