Hints of the Saxon house of God still exist inside the congregation. In 1102 Hubert de Burgh, Chief Justice of England, conceded 'Ranulph' certain grounds in trust for the Church of St Andrew's.
Ranulph is recorded as the primary Vicar of Soham and played a part in planning the 'new' Norman church.
The present church is for the most part later, the pinnacle being the most recent expansion in the fifteenth century. This pinnacle was worked to supplant a fallen intersection tower and now contains ten chimes.
The back six were thrown in 1788, with two new trebles and two chimes being recast in 1808.
