It is presently possessed by the general population of Bolton through their Council with whom the Friends of Smithills Hall work in association.Throughout the years the first Medieval Hall has been added to and gives an intriguing history of the general population who lived there. The structures incorporate Tudor and Victorian wings, notwithstanding the Medieval Hall, and a private Chapel.
The private house of prayer supposedly settled in AD 792, was remade around 1520 by Andrew Barton and kept up by the families who lived there. It has along these lines be added to, repaired, suffered a noteworthy fire and reestablished. It remains a blessed church.
