Sidcup
About Sidcup
Sidcup is a district of south-east London, England, more often than not inside the London Borough of Bexley. Located 11.3 miles south east of Charing Cross, it borders the London Boroughs of Bromley and Greenwich. It is inside the historical county of Kent. The name is thought to be derived from Cetecopp meaning "seat shaped or flat crowned hill"; it had its earliest recorded use in 1254. Sidcup originated as a tiny hamlet on the street from Maidstone to London.
According to Edward Hasted, "Thomas de Sedcopp was proprietor of this estate inside the thirty fifth 12 months of king Henry VI as appears via his deed." Hasted described Sidcup inside the latter part of the 18th century as "a small street of houses, amongst that is an lodge of a whole lot hotel", regarding the former Black Horse pub at the high street. Sidcup parish fashioned the Sidcup Urban District of Kent from 1908.
It changed into initially referred to as Foots Cray; but, in 1921 the urban district, and in 1925 the parish, had been renamed Sidcup. The parish and district were abolished in 1934 and blended with Chislehurst to form the Chislehurst and Sidcup civil parish and urban district. In 1965 the parish and concrete district have been abolished. Sidcup went directly to shape part of the London Borough of Bexley in Greater London and Chislehurst fashioned a part of the London Borough of Bromley.
