Shipley
About Shipley
Shipley is a residential area in the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, by the River Aireand the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, north of Bradford. Shipley is situated at a vital intersection of the River Aire, where the course from Otley to Bradford crosses the course from Skipton to Leeds. It is protected by the grindstone precipices of Wrose and Windhill toward the east, and toward the north by Baildon and Hawksworth Moors, in the north over the River Aire, is Shipley Glen. It has for quite some time been a prevalent wonder spot, and in 1895 the Shipley Glen Tramway was developed to convey guests to the best.
The tramway has weathered times of disregard and conclusion, yet in 2012 it ran most ends of the week through the late spring, staffed by volunteers. Crowghyll Park was at one time a quarry and the town's decline dump. The land was given to chapel superintendents in lieu of normal rights when Shipley Common was encased and in 1889 it was arranged. An open play area was opened by Mrs Titus Salt in 1890. A bigger entertainment territory with playing fields, allocations, woods, and a private golf club is arranged on the slope at Northcliff.
