Shepherd Wheel
About Shepherd Wheel
Shepherd Wheel is an attracting thing for visitor as well as for locals; it is a working gallery in a previous water-controlled granulating workshop arranged on the Porter Brook in the south-west of the City of Sheffield, England.
One of the soonest wheels on the River Porter, it is one of only a handful few remaining—and successfully entire—cases of this sort of big business, one that used to be ordinary in the Sheffield zone. Its 5.5 m 18 ft breadth overshot water wheel is controlled from an expansive dam supplied with water occupied from the Porter Brook. The workshops, dam, goit and weir are Grade II recorded, and the site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
This is the most punctual reference to a wheel on the site. The depiction of this wheel matches one that a Mr Shepherd held the tenure of in 1794. There were no comparable wheels in the territory, which drives us to the conclusion that the references are to a similar wheel.
