About Ruins of Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle is a stronghold remaining over the town of a similar name on the Isle of Purbeck in the English province of Dorset. Worked by William the Conqueror, the château dates to the eleventh century and orders a hole in the Purbeck Hills on the course amongst Wareham and Swanage. The principal stage was one of the soonest strongholds in England to be worked at any rate mostly utilizing stone when the dominant part were worked with earth and timber.

Corfe Castle experienced major auxiliary changes in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.In 1572, Corfe Castle left the Crown's control when Elizabeth I sold it to Sir Christopher Hatton. Sir John Bankes purchased the château in 1635, and was the proprietor amid the English Civil War. His better half, Lady Mary Bankes, drove the protection of the stronghold when it was twice blockaded by Parliamentarian powers.
