Rotunda Museum
About Rotunda Museum
The Rotunda Museum is famous for its historical and unique collection; it is brimming with captivating items, from fossils found on East Yorkshire's Dinosaur Coast to Gristhorpe Man, the skeleton and pine box of a Bronze Age man, which is the best case of a tree internment in Britain. Try not to miss the baffling bone, rock and prong objects from Star Carr, a standout amongst the most vital Middle Stone Age locales of its kind in Great Britain.
The Rotunda is a show in itself – this one of a kind round building, opened in 1829, is one of the world's first reason assembled galleries, worked to an outline proposed by William 'Strata' Smith, known as the father of English Geology. The inside, with its staggering trompe l'oeil roof and entrancing Georgian display, includes a frieze demonstrating the geography of the neighborhood coastline planned by Smith's nephew, John Phillips.
