Rochester Castle
About Rochester Castle
Rochester Castle remains on the east bank of the River Medway in Rochester, Kent, South East England. The twelfth century keep or stone pinnacle, which is the stronghold's most noticeable component, is a standout amongst other protected in England or France. Arranged on the River Medway and Watling Street, Rochester filled in as a deliberately imperative imperial château. Amid the late medieval period it shielded England's south-east drift from attack.
The primary manor at Rochester was established in the consequence of the Norman Conquest. It was given to Bishop Odo, presumably by his relative William the Conqueror. Amid the Rebellion of 1088 over the progression to the English position of royalty, Odo bolstered Robert Curthose, the Conqueror's oldest child, against William Rufus.
It was amid this contention that the château first observed military activity; the city and palace were attacked after Odo made Rochester a central station for the disobedience. After the army ceded, this first mansion was deserted.
