About RAF Manston History Museum

Manston began its Aviation days as a Royal Naval Station in 1916. By 1917 Manston landing strip had developed to incorporate four underground shelters, its own particular railroad line to Birchington, a power station to produce power, sleeping enclosure for 3,000 men and even an indoor swimming pool.

After WW1, preparing of aviators in airframe support and motor repairs was educated in the School of Technical Training. 1940 and WW2 brought the Battle of Britain. Barnes Wallis touched base in 1943 to test his ricocheting bomb at adjacent Reculver, before the Dam busters did their well known strike. Roland Beaumont touched base with the Typhoon which came to be the best ground assault airplane in WW2.
