Portland Museum
About Portland Museum
Portland Museum is a fascinating and amicable little exhibition hall with significantly more to see than you would accept from the size.Situated in the antiquated village of Wakeham or more the inlet at Church Ope, Portland's Museum was established in 1930 by Dr Marie Stopes in two mid seventeenth century stone houses.
Propelled by one of these bungalows, Wessex creator, Thomas Hardy made it the home of Avice, the champion in his novel "The Wellbeloved".Today the Museum houses a large number of the ancient rarities related with the history and culture of the Island and Royal Manor of Portland and recounts the tale of neighborhood industry, the Sea, the Prisons and the People.
The Museum is Open Saturdays and Sundays all through November 11:00am to 3:00pm.
