About Old Gala House
Old Gala House is an exhibition hall and gathering focus arranged in the Old Town zone of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. The building was initially worked as a pinnacle house in 1487 by the Hoppringill family, who had been conceded the grounds of Gala by the Earl of Douglas. In 1583, Andrew Hoppringill did much change and expanded the house as his family home. Advance development occurred in 1611, preceding Andrew came back to inhabit the family seat of Smailholm Tower in 1635, when his little girl, Jean, wedded Hugh Scott.
A roof painting was rediscovered in 1952 praising that marriage. Hugh Scott, the new laird, completed more upgrades and expanded the house. Assist expansions were done in the 17th and 18th hundreds of years, finishing the structure you see today. The five cove, U-formed house is worked of rubblestone and is grasped on three sides by patio nurseries finish with water highlights. In 1872, Hugh Scott 9th of Gala authorized David Bryce, a famous Scottish engineer, to outline and construct another house. On finish the family moved to New Gala House, deserting the old house. New Gala House was devastated in 1985 around the time the Scottish Borders Council remodeled the old house and changed over it to a scene.
