About Newton Aycliffe
Newton Aycliffe is a town in County Durham, England. Established in 1947 under the New Towns Act of 1946, the town sits around 5 miles toward the north of Darlington and ten miles toward the south of the city of Durham. It is the most seasoned new town in the north of England, and together with the flanking Aycliffe Village, shapes the common area of Great Aycliffe. The number of inhabitants in the town at the season of the 2011 registration was 26,633.
There are no "lanes" in Newton Aycliffe. Thefundamental street which goes through the focal point of the town is 'Focal Avenue'. There are numerous Roads, Closes, Crescents and even a Parade. In the more established parts of the town the lanes are named after Bishops of Durham and Saints: Van Mildert; St. Aidan's; Biscop. Some are named after noticeable neighborhood families, for example, Shafto, Eden,and Bowes for instance. Some are even named after the movers and shakers of the New Town Movement, for example, Lord Lewis Silkin and Lord Beveridge.
