About Newton Abbot
Newton Abbot is a market town and common area on the River Teign in the Teignbridge District of Devon, England, with a populace of 25,556. Newton Abbot became quickly in the Victorian period as it was home toward the South Devon Railway train works. This later turned into a noteworthy steam motor shed and was held to benefit British Railways diesel trains, in spite of the fact that it shut in 1981 and is currently the site of a mechanical bequest. The town has a racecourse adjacent, the most westerly racecourse in England, and has a nation stop, Decoy.
Hints of Neolithic individuals have been found at Berry's Wood Hill Fort close Bradley Manor. This was a form slope post that encased around 11 sections of land 4.5 ha. Milber Down camp was worked before the first century BC and was later quickly possessed by the Romans, whose coins have been discovered there. The remaining parts of a Norman motte-and-bailey stronghold, known as Castle Dyke, are on Highweek Hill. A town grew up around the château, first called Teignwick, and later Highweek – the town on the high ground. Another settlement created on the low ground around the River Lemon and would turn out to be a piece of Wolborough Manor.
