Museum of Somerset
About Museum of Somerset
The Museum of Somerset is located in the 12th century great hall of Taunton Castle, in Taunton in the county of Somerset, England. The gallery is controlled by the South West Heritage Trust, an autonomous philanthropy and incorporates questions at first gathered by the Somerset Archeological and Natural History Society who claim the manor. Until 2008 the exhibition hall was known as the Somerset County Museum. Legacy Lottery Fund bolster was acquired to enhance the gallery, and the new historical center revived toward the finish of September 2011.
Displays incorporate the Frome Hoard, the Low Ham Roman Mosaic, the bronze-age South Cadbury shield and a scope of different items identifying with the historical backdrop of the district. In 1874 the manor was purchased by the Somerset Archeological and Natural History Society and somewhere in the range of 1899 and 1900 the Great Hall was repaired and refitted as their central gallery space. In 1908-09 the Adam Library was made to house the general public's developing accumulation of books. The general public presently rents it to Somerset County Council to house the Museum of Somerset. A considerable extent of the things held by the Museum were initially gathered by the Society.
