About Maidenhead
Maidenhead is a vast market town in Berkshire, England, on the south-western bank of the River Thames. With a populace of around 73,000, Maidenhead is the biggest town in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The town is arranged 31 miles 50 km west of London, 13 miles 21 km upper east of Reading, 32 miles 51 km southeast of Oxford and 7 miles 11 km from both Henley on Thames and Windsor.
The curator John Leland guaranteed that the region around Maidenhead's present town focus was a little Roman settlement called Alaunodunum. He expressed that it had everything except vanished before the finish of the Roman occupation. Despite the fact that his source is obscure, there is recorded and physical proof of Roman settlement in the town. There are two understood estate destinations in the town, one being in the suburb of Cox Green, and the other only west of the town fixate on Castle Hill.
This manor sat on the course of the Camlet Way which was a Roman street connecting Silchester Calleva Atrebatum and Colchester Camulodunum by means of St Albans, Verulamium and goes through the present town focus. Leftovers of the street have been uncovered at different areas adjacent, yet its correct course is misty. Maidenhead's name comes from the riverside region where the main "New wharf" or "Lady Hythe" was worked, as ahead of schedule as Saxon occasions. In the year 870, a multitude of Danes attacked the kingdom of Wessex.
