About Lerwick
Lerwick is the main port of Shetland Islands, Scotland. It is focused 123 miles off the north shore of the Scottish terrain and on the east shoreline of the Shetland Mainland. Lerwick is 211 miles north-by-upper east of Aberdeen, 222 miles west of the also protected port of Bergen in Norway and 228 miles south east of Torshavn in the Faroe Islands.
Lerwick, Shetland's solitary burgh, had a populace of around 7000 inhabitants in 2010. Lerwick is additionally the third biggest island settlement in Scotland, and is the most northerly town in the United Kingdom and the most easterly town in Scotland. Lerwick is a name with roots in Old Norse and its nearby relative, Norn, which was talked in Shetland until the mid-19th century. The name "Lerwick" implies cove of mud. The comparing Norwegian name is Leirvik, leir meaning mud and vik signifying "sound" or "gulf". Towns with comparative names exist in southwestern Norway and on the Faroe Islands.
