About Largs
Largs is a town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, Scotland, around 33 miles from Glasgow. The first name signifies "the slants" in Scottish Gaelic. A mainstream ocean side resort with a wharf, the town markets itself on its noteworthy connections with the Vikings and a yearly celebration is held every year toward the beginning of September. In 1263 it was the site of the Battle of Largs between the Norwegian and the Scottish armed forces. The National Mod has likewise been held here previously.
There is proof of human action in the region of Largs which can be dated to the Neolithic period. The Haylie Chambered Tomb in Douglas Park dates from c. 3000 BC. Largs developed from the domains of North Cunninghame over which the Montgomeries of Skelmorlie wound up transient masters in the 17th century. Sir Robert Montgomerie fabricated Skelmorlie Aisle in the antiquated kirk of Largs in 1636 as a family sepulcher. Today the landmark is everything that remaining parts of the old kirk.
