About Lamorbey Park

Lamorbey Park is a 57 hectare park in Lamorbey, within the London Borough of Bexley, set around a Grade II listed mansion, Lamorbey House. The original seventeenth century property consisted of 119 hectares, but over time sections of the estate were separated for different makes use of, along with secondary colleges, Rose Bruford College, and Sidcup Golf Club. The location of the park nonetheless in public ownership includes The Glade, a 7.4 hectare region of ancient panorama laid inside the 1920s with a massive lake.

The park become introduced to the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special ancient interest in 1988. The earliest recorded proprietor of the property become Thomas Sparrow, a reeve, in 1495. He died in 1513, and his daughter Agnes and her husband James Goldwell constructed the primary house there, possibly a wooden house with later brick wings delivered. The Goldwell family sold the property inside the past due 17th century, and the residence and property had several exceptional proprietors, inclusive of Charles FitzRoy, the son of Charles II.

The 119 hectare Lamorbey Estate became bought via William Steele, a director of the East India Company, in 1744. When he died in 1748 the property became split among his daughters, and in 1761 it changed into divided into two components whilst sold to extraordinary proprietors.
