About Laigh Milton Viaduct

Laigh Milton Viaduct, otherwise called Milton Bridge or Gatehead Viaduct, is accepted to be the world's soonest surviving viaduct on an open railroad. It was worked by William Jessop for the Kilmarnock and Troon Railway, Scotland's soonest line. The viaduct was being used until 1846. It later fell into deterioration however was reestablished in 1995-6 when a copy of the first track was reproduced on it.
The Kilmarnock and Troon Railway was worked for the railroad organization's administrator William Bentinck , fourth Duke of Portland, for the transportation of coal from west of Kilmarnock to Troon Harbor . It was a twofold track cast press plateway, with wagons drawn by groups of stallions.
