Lady Godiva
About Lady Godiva
Godiva, Countess of Mercia, in Old English Godgifu, was an English aristocrat who, as indicated by a legend dating in any event to the thirteenth century, rode stripped – shrouded just in her long hair – through the avenues of Coventry to pick up an abatement of the abusive tax collection that her significant other forced on his inhabitants. The Old English name Godgifu or Godgyfu signified "endowment of God"; Godiva was the Latinised shape. Since the name was a mainstream one, there are counterparts of a similar name.
They had one known child, Aelfgar. Godiva's name happens in sanctions and the Domesday study, however, the spelling fluctuates. The name "Peeping Tom" for a voyeur begins from later forms of this legend in which a man named Thomas watched her ride and was struck visually impaired or dead.Godiva was the spouse of Leofric, Earl of Mercia.
