Julian Bower
About Julian Bower
Julian Bower is a name which was given to turf labyrinths in a few unique parts of England. Just a single of this name still exists, at Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire. It has additionally been known by defiled types of the name, for example, "Gillian's Bore" and "Gilling Bore". The 18th century collector William Stukeley specifies a "Julian Bower" turf labyrinth at Horncastle, Lincolnshire, and in close-by Louth there was a "Gelyan Bower", which was made reference to in records of 1554. At Whinfell Forest there is a ranch called Julian Bower, initially worked to help the Keeper.
It presently lies outside the timberland limit. Some English turf labyrinths are fundamentally the same as in their format to Scandinavian mazes, which typically have their ways set apart with stones. At Grothornet, in Vartdal in the Sunnmore Province of Norway there is a stone-lined maze called "Cave Julianske Borg". On a crisp morning, Emley Moor TV tower, the highest point of York Minster and the Kilburn White Horse can be seen from Julian's Bower.
