About Holywood
Holywood is a town in the metropolitan territory of Belfast in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is a common area and townland of 755 sections of land lying on the shore of Belfast Lough, among Belfast and Bangor. Holywood Exchange and Belfast City Airport are close-by. The town has a yearly jazz and blues celebration. In the seventeenth century, Ulster ports started to ascend in conspicuousness. In 1625, William Pitt was named as Customer of the ports of Newcastle, Dundrum, Killough, Portaferry, Donaghadee, Bangor and Holywood.
In the mid 19th century, Holywood, in the same way as other waterfront towns all through Ireland, ended up mainstream as a resort for ocean showering. Numerous affluent Belfast dealers picked the town and the encompassing region to manufacture extensive homes for themselves. These incorporated the Kennedys of Cultra and the Harrisons of Holywood. Dalchoolin House remained on the site of the present Ulster Transport Museum, while Cultra Manor was worked between 1902– 04 and now houses some portion of the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.
The railroad line from Belfast to Holywood opened in 1848, and this prompted fast improvement. The number of inhabitants in Holywood was around 3,500 of every 1900 and had developed to 12,000 by 2001. This development, combined with that of different towns and towns along the waterfront strip to Bangor, required the development of the Holywood Bypass in the mid 1970s. Holywood today is a mainstream local location and is notable for its trendy shops, boutiques, expressions and artworks.
