About Holly Cross and Saint Helen Church
Holly Cross and Saint Helen Church is a Roman Catholic church in Saint Helens, Merseyside. It was worked in 1860 by the Society of Jesus. It was composed by Joseph John Scoles and is a Grade II recorded building. The congregation was established by the Society of Jesus in 1860. Fr Thomas Seed, the leader of the Jesuits in Britain, who likewise established Sacred Heart Church in Edinburgh established the framework stone of the congregation on 3 May 1860, that was then Feast of the Finding of the True Cross.
The congregation was outlined by Joseph John Scoles who likewise planned Saint Ignatius Church, Preston in Lancashire, Immaculate Conception Church, Farm Street in London and the Church of Saint Francis Xavier, Liverpool. Development of the congregation went on for very nearly two years and the congregation was opened on 1 May 1862. In the congregation there is a commemoration stone dated 1933, demonstrating when the Jesuits gave over the congregation to the Archdiocese of Liverpool, who have kept on directing it from that point forward.
