About Hereford
Hereford is a cathedral town, civil parish and county metropolis of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, about 26 km east of the border with Wales, 39 km southwest of Worcester, and 37 km northwest of Gloucester. With a populace of 58,896, it is the most important settlement within the county. The call "Hereford" is said to return from the Anglo-Saxon "here", an army or formation of squaddies, and the "ford", an area for crossing a river.
It is the foundation it shows that Hereford become a place where a frame of armed guys forded or crossed the Wye. The Welsh call for Hereford is Henffordd, that means "vintage street", and in all likelihood refers back to the Roman avenue and Roman agreement at nearby Stretton Sugwas. Much of the county of Herefordshire was Welsh-speakme, as contemplated inside the Welsh names of many places in the county see History of Herefordshire.
