The Harris Museum, Art Gallery, and Preston Free Public Library is a Grade I recorded exhibition hall working in Preston.In the nineteenth century, it ended up legitimate to fund-raise for libraries by nearby tax collection, and the town of Preston needed a terrific historical center and library for its tenants. From 1850, nearby individuals held raising money occasions; and in 1877 Edmund Robert Harris, a Preston legal advisor, left in his will £300,000 to build up a trust and bolster an open library, exhibition hall, and workmanship display with Preston Corporation.
In 1879, the principal Preston loaning library was set up in the Town Hall cellar, while an open historical center was set up on Cross Street, opening 1 May 1880. Achievement drove the committee to erect another working for both. Work began on the exhibition hall in 1882 amid the Preston Guild, and it authoritatively opened in 1893.
