Elgin
About Elgin
Elgin is a town and Royal Burgh in Moray, Scotland. It is the managerial and business community for Moray. The town started toward the south of the River Lossie on the higher ground over the floodplain. Elgin is first recorded in the Cartulary of Moray in 1190 AD. In August 1040, MacBeth's armed force crushed and murdered Duncan I at Bothganowan Pitgaveny, close Elgin. Elgin is first recorded in a sanction of David I in 1151 in which he allowed an annuity to the Priory of Urquhart. David had made Elgin an illustrious burgh around 1130, after his annihilation of Oengus of Moray.
Amid David's rule the stronghold was built up at the highest point of what is presently Lady Hill. The town got an imperial contract from Alexander II in 1224 when he conceded the land for another house of prayer to Andrew, Bishop of Moray. This at long last settled the episcopal see which had been at different occasions at Kinneddar, Birnie and Spynie. Elgin was a famous living arrangement for the early Scottish rulers: David I, William I, Alexander II and Alexander III all held court there and chased in the regal timberlands. Shaped in 1893, the town's solitary senior football club is Elgin City, who play at Borough Briggs stadium.
