Dover
About Dover
Dover, town ward and seaport on the Strait of Dover, Dover region, managerial and notable region of Kent, southeastern England. Arranged on the English Channel at the mouth of a valley in the chalk uplands that frame the well known white precipices, Dover is the nearest English port to the European terrain. It fills in as the regulatory community for the district.A pre-Roman settlement existed on the site, and, as Dubris, the place was critical for Roman movement with the European terrain. In the fourth century CE it was monitored by a post as a component of the barriers of the Saxon Shore. The mansion, which stands 375 feet 114 meters above ocean level and from which on a crisp morning the shore of France can be seen, rules the town beneath. Inside its regions are a Roman beacon, the old stronghold Church of St. Mary in Castro, stays of the Saxon fortress, and the monstrous Norman keep. Amid the eleventh century it was made one of the Cinque Ports. Dover cases to be a Saxon precinct by "solution," without a formal contract of joining.
