The congregation was worked in the mid-nineteenth century by the Gothic restoration engineer Joseph Hansom, originator of the hansom taxi and is renowned as having the tallest tower of any area church in England.St Walburge's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Preston, Lancashire, England, northwest of the downtown area on Weston Street. St Walburge's is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as an assigned Grade I recorded building.
In 2014, Michael Campbell, Roman Catholic Bishop of Lancaster, endowed the congregation to the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest as a hallowed place for Eucharistic Devotion.St Walburge's is committed to Saint Walpurga, an English holy person, conceived 710 AD., little girl of St Richard, a Saxon lord.
